Training on Nature Based Solutions for Storm Water, Landslide & Flood Risk Management
The College of Science and Technology successfully conducted a five-day Training on Nature-Based Solutions for Storm Water, Landslide & Flood Risk Management from 26 to 30 January 2026. The training was organized under the GEF-funded, MoIT-led ECRUL Project (2025–2031) in partnership with UNDP. It was aimed at strengthening the technical capacity of professionals from private construction companies, corporations, and relevant agencies to integrate Nature-Based Solutions into infrastructure planning and disaster risk management.
The training programmes covers, sessions on NbS, technical lectures on catchment works, landslide and torrent control measures, runoff computation, and flood risk management, as well as river modeling using RAS Mapper with hands-on practice. Practical learning was emphasized through site visits to the college’s Pond Site and Amochu Town Planning area (PTDP), and exercises on integrated infrastructure planning and bioswale design.
The training concluded with group presentations, feedback sessions, and certificate awards, highlighting active participation of all 28 attendees, including professionals from private construction companies and corporations such as CDCL and FCBL. This initiative contributes to promoting resilient, sustainable, and climate-smart infrastructure development in Bhutan, with plans to engage additional private construction companies in upcoming training programmes.
