Training on Estimating Hydrological Discharge & River Modelling Using HEC-RAS
Under the initiatives of Ms. Tshering Cheki, project focal, the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department has successfully conducted a two-day training on “Estimating Hydrological Discharge & River Modelling Using HEC-RAS” from October 25-26, 2025. The training was part of the Project “Regional Cooperation for Freshwater Ecosystem Services in Himalayas (REFRESH)” funded by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN). Staffs from the department along with 35 students from third and fourth-year Civil engineering programme have participated the training. The opening session was graced online by Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, IIT Roorkee, REFRESH Project Lead who emphasized the crucial need for regional collaboration to address water-related disasters in the Himalayas. Through guidance from Mr. Leki Dorji and Tashi Dorji, participants gained practical skills in using HEC-RAS software, enabling them to develop hydraulic models for flood analysis and river management which are essential tools for addressing water security challenges.
